Digital SLR Camera Bag Reccomendations (Lowepro slingshot?)?

Hello there,

I'm looking for a bag to take my DSLR on holday with. I dont consider myself a pro photographer but do carry some bits and pieces. Planning to take my 400D SLR with 28-135 IS lens, chargers, cables and a couple of other lenses with me.

The lowepro slingshot (looking at the 200 and 300) seem to be ace bags and easy to live with and also have a space for additional bits and pieces (non camera related, suntan cream etc etc) but was wondering if anyone else had any good reccomendations for maybe a little less money.

Critical to have space for the above mentioned kit but also need space for other non camera related parephenalia.

any thoughts?

Lowepro sling bags and backpacks are better because the do not announce ..."there are cameras here ... steal me!"

I have used an ordinary backpack (Crux be Gregory) for over five years and there is room in it for two DSLR's, three lenses, two flashes and a small reflector and in the small pouch, plenty of room for film, lens cleaning tissue, light meter, pens, notepads, small level, ear plugs and battery charger.

I can also stick two one liter bottles of water and a mono-pod in it when I am hiking.

Help me pick one: Lowepro Nova 140 AW or Crumpler $4 million home bag?

Link for Lowepro: http://products.lowepro.com/product/Nova-140-AW,2102,20.htm

Pros:
-has a raincoat thing which you can take out to protect your gear even in heavy rain, which crumpler doesn't.
-has padded shoulder strap which crumpler doesn't.
Cons:
-looks like a camera bag (come steal me), which crumpler doesn't.

Link for Crumpler: http://www.amazon.com/Crumpler-Million-Dollar-Photo-Color/dp/B0009Y583G

Pros:
-is stylish and slim
-does not look like a camera bag...so good!
Cons:
-might look girlish...?
-no rain protection for the gear, has little open corners on the top
-no padded shoulder strap, might hurt shoulders after long time

I don't want other suggestions. No $5 million either.

I have Nikon D40 with 18-200mm VR ...no other lens...just wish to carry this and ofcourse the hood, battery charger with cable, 2 filters, and a usb card reader.

Which one would you pick? google to product to see more images i guess.

I need a camera bag not over the shoulder that can hand 2 bodies and equipment?

I have a D200, D80, two flash units, a stroboframe, filters, bounce and diffusers, cords, extra batteries and other small stuff. Right now I'm carrying around two bags and it's getting annoying. I'd prefer something from Lowepro but if it's good bag I'll take it. Under $300 dollars please. Thank You

Check out the Karachi Outpost, by Crumpler, it has plenty of room. it's great quality.. another good one, which doubles as a shoulder bag, and converts to a backpack, is the Brazilian Dollar Bag.. http://crumplerusa.com

Going backpacking. How can I carry backpack plus rather large camera bag?

I prefer camera backpacks such as lowepro computreker, is there anything out there same capacity but more versatile, like a shoulder bag or even better a backpack/shoulder bag.
Please help, much appreciated
To clarify I need to carry a backpack plus a camera bag?

If I understand correctly, what you are asking is how do you carry your camera (preferrably in a location where it is easy to reach on the trail) when you are also carrying a full camping backpack with tent, sleeping bag, etc., yes?

I do a fair amount of multi-day backpacking trips and sometimes carry my Canon Digital Rebel SLR (and a large 35mm Minolta camera before that). What I have found is the best approach is to get one of those triangular-shaped camera cases (where the lens points down) and where (this is the important part), you can un-clip the shoulder strap. You then get a couple of carbiner clips and clip the camera case directly to your pack's front shoulder straps (with each shoulder strap linked to one corner of the case). The result is that the case is essentially strapped to your chest in front.

This works pretty well... a little weight in front actually balances out against the pack on your back and your camera is at the ready if you need it on the trail. You can stow the case's shoulder strap and any extra lens in your pack to switch around in camp as needed. The only drawback is that the case in front obscures your view of your feet somewhat which can seem a little weird at first and be a bit awkward if on a really rough trail with a lot of delicate footwork.

I have a Case Logic case that I use this way and I can fit either an SLR with a telephoto lens or a regular lens and an extra wide-angle ready in the bottom. There are other cases that would work just as well for this setup too.

Whatever you do, if you are carrying a full backpack, you do not want any more straps hanging around your neck and shoulders.
