Samsonite luggage and sweat shop labor?

I got a set of Samsonite luggage as a graduation gift and I'm concerned Samsonite uses sweatshops as the tag says Made in China. There's no way I'd ever use sweatshop products so please help. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

good luck finding luggage that's NOT made in china, that you can afford.

and don't get me started on "sweatshops" - any factory job is way better than starving on the farm.

pick up the May issue of National Geographic if you want to see the reality.

How sturdy is Samsonite Spinner, or other luggage with 360 degree wheels? Comments & opinions?

Do you have experience with Samsonite "Spinner" luggage, which has wheels that rotate 360 degrees, or another brand with this feature? I'm considering buying a set of either Samsonite or another brand with 360 wheels, but I'm worried about the wheels breaking off because they are not recessed into the suitcases. I checked the warranty on Samsonite's site and it does not cover wheels that are broken because that is considered "abuse."

If you have used this type of luggage, I would sure appreciate your opinions and experience with it. Please tell me how much you've used it, how old it is, etc. How well did it wear? Did it get dirty easily? Have you had a problem with the airlines breaking the wheels? Any other suggestions or thoughts would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help!

Some of the wheels are recessed. You just have to check the images online...I am looking for new luggage and considering the 360 wheels. Right now I am looking at Liz Claiborne and American Tourister brands.

How do I pick a samsonite luggage lock?

Nov 10, 2008
Todd S

its not hard. but you know you can probably get an extra Samsonite key at any key place. They only use one key design so any key opens any Samsonite. It's not really so much a lock as specialized clasp with a special opener. So there are no tumblers just a spring loaded hasp

But if you insist try finding a slender piece of metal, like a bobby pin, fashion a small bend at the end of the strip. place that in the hole and give it a twist to the right. You'lll have to fiddle around till you find something thatgives' under your probing. It will help if you push down on the clasp to relieve some tension. don't forget to let go when you feel your probe pushing the innards to the right
